2022/2023 PRIMARY LEAVING NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS KICK-OFF

Kigali, 17 July 2023: Today, the Ministry of Education through the National Examination and School Inspection Authority launched a three-day exercise whereby 202,967 pupils, including 91,067 males and 111,900 females from 3,644 primary schools countrywide will be sitting for their 2022/2023 Primary School Leaving National Examinations (PLE) at 1,099 different examinations centers.

At the national level, 2022/2023 PLE was launched at two different examinations centers in Kigali City, respectively by the Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Hon. Gaspard Twagirayezu at EP St Dominic Kagugu in Gasabo district whereas the Minister of State in Charge of ICT & TVET Hon. Claudette Irere did the same at GS Camp Kigali in Nyarugenge district.

The event was attended by different influential figures as follows: Dr. Mpabwanamaguru Merard, the Vice Mayor in Charge of Urbanisation and Infrastructure of Kigali City, the Director-General of NESA Dr. Bernard Bahati, the Executive Secretary of Gasabo district, Madam Umwali Pauline who all accompanied Hon. Gaspard Twagirayezu at EP St Dominic Kagugu whereas Mr. Rubingisa Pudence, the Mayor of Kigali City joined Hon. Claudette Irere in the same exercise.

In their well- wishes address to the candidates, both Ministers of State said: “We are here to wish you success in these PLE examinations, and we believe in your success as you have been preparing for this step for the last six years, so don’t panic, read carefully every question before answering and avoid any form of malpractices.”

As Rwanda put an emphasis on inclusive education, the above-mentioned PLE 2022/2023 candidates include 561 candidates with disabilities including 304 males and 257 females, and an extra hour was favorably accorded to them to be able to finish their exams as the normal time allocated to each exam is only two hours.

The examinable subjects in primary national examinations are Mathematics, Social and Religious studies, Science and Elementary Technology, Ikinyarwanda, and English

These PLE examinations are following national TVET practical examinations that started on 19/6/2022 and ended on 30 June 2023.

The total number of 2022/2023 registered candidates in all levels (PLE, O’Level, A’Level,TVET and TTC) is 415,366 with 228,050 females and 187,316 males dispatched as follows:

  • PLE candidates are 202,967 pupils, including 91,067 males and 111,900 females.
  • TTC candidates are 3,994 with 1,708 males and 2,286 females.
  • O’Level candidates are 131,535 with 58,005 males 73,530 females.  
  • A’Level candoidates are 48,674 with 21,307 males 27,367 females.
  • TVET candidates are 28,196 with 15,229 males and 12,967 females.

The 2022/2023 O’level, A’Level, TVET and TTC national examinations will start on 25 July 2023 and end on 04 August 2023.

The PLE examinations which started today will end on 19/07/2023.
