286,087 pupils sit for National Primary Leaving Examinations

Kigali, 04th November 2019, the Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Isaac MUNYAKAZI launched the Primary Leaving Examinations at GS Kimisagara in Nyarugenge district , City of Kigali .  

A total number of 286,087 primary school leavers  ( 154,339 girls and 131,748 boys ) dispatched in 871 centres countrywide ,  have started national examinations in five subjects: Mathematics, Social Studies , Kinyarwanda, , English and Science.

An increase of 11.9% has been observed this year compared to last year's statistics whereby 255,578 candidates sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations .

Dr.MUNYAKAZI told the candidates to follow all the instructions in order to succeed. " If you follow the examination instructions and think twice before answering, there is no doubt that you will succeed.". He added that they should avoid absenteism during the period of exams.

The Minister of State stressed that the Ministry is confident that the candidates will perform well because they have been prepared . " As you may be aware, the 2019 final examinations were prepared by Rwanda Education Board, so following the way pupils performed in the past exams, there is no doubt that P6 leavers will  succeed in these national exams ".

Dr. MUNYAKAZI warned teachers and pupils over malpractices as a way to instill good values in pupils and also exhorted parents to avail time for the children to revise.

It is expected that these PLE exams will end on 6th November 2019.
