MINEDUC and affiliated agencies visited Kiziguro Genocide Memorial site

On the 18th May 2018 , The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) together with its affiliated agencies visited  Kiziguro Genocide Memorial site in Gatsibo district, Eastern Province.  A delegation of more than 300 staff from MINEDUC, Rwanda Education Board, Workforce Development Authority, Higher Education Council, the Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO and Kigali Public Library, moved from Kigali to Gatsibo district to visit Kiziguro Genocide Memorial and  also visited some survivors of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Kiramuruzi Sector in the same district.  While expressing sympathy to the survivors of Kiziguro mostly women, the Minister of Education Dr. Eugene Mutimura said "You are not alone, today the Ministry of Education's family is here to support and commend you for your outstanding resilience". He added that the current education curriculum includes genocide studies and prevention. " We are conscientious that the Genocide against the Tutsi was possible because of the rotten education that was taught in schools at that time and we are saddened by that" Dr. Mutimura emphasized.  In a bid to financially support the memorial site activities, the Minister handed over an envelope containing the support to Mr. Manzi Theogene, the Vice Mayor in charge of Finance and Economic Development of Gatsibo district.  After the visit, the delegation headed to Kiramuruzi Sector, Gatsibo district, where they visited 13 vulnerable families of survivors of the 1994  Genocide against the Tutsi.  The message of hope was conveyed to the vulnerable old women and men. The Minister of Education took the occasion to give to the families a collective support from the staff. The support items included mattresses, food products, bedclothes and  utensils etc . .. END.
