MINEDUC releases P6 and S3 examinations results for the school year 2018

Today 31st December 2018, the Minister of Education Dr. Eugene Mutimura together with the Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr.Isaac Munyakazi published 2018 primary and ordinary level examinations results . A total number of 254, 834 candidates (138,541 girls and 116,293 boys) sat for national primary examinations while 99,209 candidates (53,107 girls and 46,102 boys) sat for Ordinary level exams. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Education said “This is the first time that evaluations are made upon the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) and we are very happy for the overall performance. “He later emphasized that these results reflect all the efforts made in implementing the said CBC. The ceremony was also characterized by awarding the top 10 performers in primary examinations and 10 best performers in ordinary level. All these 20 students were accompanied by their parents or guardians  and each student received a laptop. Ishema Blessing Gianna from Kigali Parents School  emerged top in 2018 Primary leaving Examinations and Ishimwe Christian from E.SC. Byimana was the first best performing student in S3 national examinations  countrywide. Dr. Mutimura stressed that giving ICT devices to these students aligns with the Government of Rwanda’s belief that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a tool to strengthen the education systems and knowledge dissemination. “ICT plays a key role in transforming the economy, and we hope that these students will make use of these laptops to upgrade their skills and knowledge”, the Minister said. The Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi commended the efforts made in minimising cases of malpractices in 2018 examinations both in primary and ordinary level. “Such cases decreased from 354 in 2017 to 149 in 2018 (in Primary) and from 83 cases in 2017 to 78 in 2018 (in Ordinary Level ) ” he said This year’s Primary National examinations lasted from 12th -14th November 2018 whereas Ordinary Level examinations started from 20th November 2018 and ended on 30th November 2018.
