PRIME MINISTER NGIRENTE PRESIDED OVER THE WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY 2022 CELEBRATION

Kigali, November 2, 2022- Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente joined over 7,000 teachers from across the country for the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day. This ceremony took place at BK Arena in Kigali.

Prime Minister started his remarks by conveying the message from President Paul Kagame that the Government of Rwanda fully supports teachers.

He noted that World Teachers’ Day is a good opportunity to appreciate the important role that teachers play in the development of countries.

In this regard, he reminded teachers that they have a key role to play for Rwanda to achieve its target of becoming of knowledge-based economy.

Prime Minister urged teachers to be committed to improving ICT and English language skills as well as embracing innovation in education in order to improve the quality of Education.

He also called upon teachers to have discipline and adopt good behaviors because they are role models for students and communities.

In a bid to reduce classroom congestion, Prime Minister stated that the Government will continue investing in school construction as well as recruit competent and committed teachers to reduce students per teacher ratio.

The Premier also insisted that the government will continue subsidize school fees for students in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) in order to attract the best teachers in the education system and further advance the teaching profession.

He also encouraged Head Teachers to ensure the effective implementation of the school feeding program and avoid misusing and embezzling school properties and assets.
