PS Samuel MULINDWA receives a Chinese Delegation to discuss potential partnership in TVET

Kigali- Wednesday, 10th September 2019: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Samuel MULINDWA together with the Vice-Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnics, Dr. James GASHUMBA received the Chinese Delegation headed by Chi Yushou, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the cooperation in the field of TVET between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Rwanda and discuss the feasibility of establishing a Luban Workshop in Rwanda.

In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary thanked the delegation for their working visit to the Ministry of Education of Rwanda and thanked the valuable support from China on Rwanda in the areas including infrastructure over the years that had played important role in promoting the Rwandan social economic development and social welfare.

He emphasized that TVET is a priority of the Ministry of Education and he highlighted needs in infrastructure development, TVET equipment’s, Quality trainers in TVET, ICT promotion as well as STEM based TVET promotion.

In his remarks, Dr. James GASHUMBA, the Vice-Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnics highlighted specific areas of potential cooperation including infrastructure development, Manufacturing, renewable energy, mining, airport/aircraft management and maintenance, food processing, talent development, sports industries among others.

The head of delegation stressed that China attaches great importance to China-Rwanda relations development and will continue its support based on capabilities to the Rwandan development. He believed that the mutual efforts of both sides will enhance the bilateral economic and trade cooperation and bring the China-Rwanda brotherhood and partnership closer in all areas including education. He stressed also that the Ministry of Education of China is willing to join hands with Rwanda to promote the bilateral educational exchanges and cooperation.

During the discussion, the delegation learnt how the TVET is structured in Rwanda, how the government of Rwanda supports education sector and the plan in place to promote access to quality and relevant education.

In his concluding remarks, the Permanent Secretary thanked again the delegation and recalled that Rwanda would be glad to host a Luban Workshop in Rwanda and he wished them a pleasant stay in Rwanda.
