Rwanda celebrates African Day of School Feeding

Speaking to different stakeholders who attended the African Day of School Feeding celebrations in Karongi, the Minister of Education Dr. valentine Uwamariya emphasized the importance of school feeding noting that it supports the overall development of school children, for it increases both their educational and health outcomes.

‘‘The Government of Rwanda made education a priority is committed to implement school feeding programs with an aim of increasing pupils’ attendance rates, but also give more chances to children from poor households to pursue their studies & reduce drop out’’. The Minister said..

She further noted that the Government of Rwanda committed scaling up school feeding program in pre-primary and primary levels, and she requested all stakeholders particularly parents for a continued partnership in implementing the National School Feeding Policy and Strategy..

School Feeding is the strongest pillar for sustainable economic development. School meals plays a big role in students’ performance and concentration. However successful school feeding demands collective responsibility.

In the framework of joining African countries to celebrate the 5th edition of African Day of School Feeding which was celebrated on 1st March, the Government of Rwanda decided to celebrate the day on March 5th 2020 countrywide..
