MINEDUC and education stakehoders hold the Backward-Looking Joint Review of the Education Sector

On 15th October 2019, the Ministry of Education together with Education stakeholders met for the Backward-Looking Joint Review of the Education Sector (JRES) 2018/19 at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Education Dr. Eugene MUTIMURA said “This meeting is an opportunity to engage in policy dialogue and to ensure ownership, accountability and transparency of the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1), Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP), implementation and monitoring progress.

The 2018/19 Backward-Looking Joint Sector Review had the following objectives:

-          To assess progress in achieving sector objectives with focus on 2018/19 targets for: NST1indicators, selected sector performance indicators and their corresponding policy actions.

-          To present and discuss budget execution performance for 2018/19.

-          To highlight priority areas for the 2020/21 fiscal year that will inform the planning and budgeting process for institutions in the sector

.-          To review progress against implementation of recommendations from Forward Looking JRES meeting.

In his closing remarks, the Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Isaac MUNYAKAZI said : “I call upon all education stakeholders to increase their active role in the promotion of equitable quality education.”  This one day forum brought together several participants including MINEDUC Ministers and Senior Managers, key Education Development Partners, Sector Working Group (SWG), Civil Society, Private Sector, Heads of Education Institutions, and other partners from line Ministries including Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
