Speech of the Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Eugene Mutimura at the launch of UGHE - Butaro Campus

 Butaro, Friday 25th January, 2019  
           •   Your Excellency the President of the Republic of Rwanda            •   Honourable Ministers and Senior Government Officials            •   Dr. Paul Farmer, Co-Founder of Partners in Health            •   Partners and Officials of the University of Global Health Equity            •   Staff and students of the University            •   Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen
 1. I am honoured to join you at this remarkable inauguration of the University of Global Health Equity, Butaro Campus. 2. The breakthrough we are celebrating is a result of collaborative efforts of the UGHE leadership, its generous partners and the Government of Rwanda. I would like to thank you all, particularly Partners in Health, for the successful and long-term partnership with the Government of Rwanda. 3. Since the inception of the University of Global Equity -UGHE in 2015, we have worked together through the National Steering Committee to give guidance to the implementation of this great project, and we remain committed to the successful implementation of the remaining phases. 4.This new Butaro campus is a valuable asset to Rwanda’s science, technology, research and innovation ecosystem of Centers of Excellence, that will serve not only Rwanda but the entire region. 5.The University of Global Equity -UGHE integrated Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, with Honors, and Master of Science in Global Health Delivery has already been reviewed, and full accreditation should follow promptly, to ensure delivery of this unique programme. 6.The Ministry of Education, Burera District in general and Butaro Sector in particular, will continue to work proactively with the University, in order to capitalize on your innovative approach to community development. We would like the presence of this global university to benefit students, teachers at basic level of education and University lecturers as well the community in this region, by improve their teaching and learning practices. 7. Finally, let me assure you that the Ministry of Education will continue give its full support to the University of Global Equity -UGHE, in our joint efforts to create the next generation of health professionals, experts and leaders for Rwanda and beyond.    I thank you for your kind attention.
