The fifth phase of the quality education enhancement awareness campaign kicks off countywide

On 27th May 2019, The Ministry of Education the Ministry of Local Government and its stakeholders started the 5th phase of the Quality Education Enhancement Awareness Campaign with the theme:" A Regular Present Teacher, With Good Pedagogical Practices is Key to Quality Education”. The campaign targets 900 schools in 30 districts and will end on 7th June 2019.

 On this first day of the campaign, the Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Isaac MUNYAKAZI joined the campaign activities  in Nyagatare district, Eastern Province.  The Vice Mayor in Charge of Social Affairs Mrs Juliette MUREKATETE and Vice Mayor Stephen RURANGWA were also present at the event .

Prior to touring schools in this district, the Minister of State met with the headteachers , district director of education  and sector education officers , to discuss the outcomes of the last campaign .

 The Vice Mayor in Charge of Social Affairs said that the four past campaigns were a way to change the way things used to be in Nyagatare schools. “We are happy that students drop outs cases reduced considerably, we commend the way teachers now prepare lessons before going to class, to name but a few changes brought by these campaigns” , She added that they are confident that this fifth phase will leave more improvement in Nyagatare schools in terms of leaderships, students performance , ICT in education, student attitude and discipline.

 In his address , MoS Dr. Isaac MUNYAKAZI reminded headteachers that the success of the school lies on their ownership. “ If you stand aside and overlook, how do you expect your students to perform well? You should be involved in all that happens at school, this is the only way to succeed in your leadership.” He emphasized that the Ministry will not tolerate school mismanagements anymore and called upon quick changes.

He later reminded them the role of a teacher is crucial in achieving quality education. “We are conscious that a good teacher is the foundation, that is why we are determined to empower teachers and at the same time urge you to grab the opportunity and fully utilize available resources to achieve your goals”
