“The future needs best coders like you” MoS Irere tells the scratch competition contestants

Kigali, on 2nd June 2021: The Minister of State in Charge of ICT & TVET Mrs. Claudette IRERE officiated the 4th National Scratch Competition 2021 for primary and lower secondary schools.

The final stage of the competition brought together 60 pupils and students from different schools countrywide. It was evaluating the capacity of pupils and students to showcase their skills in critical thinking and creativity in ICT.

In her address to the participants, the Minister of State Hon. IRERE said “We are proud of your coding skills, the future will need best coders like you and you should never stop this noble ambition.”

“This is just the beginning", she added.

All the students who competed and reached the final stage at national level, were awarded school bags and the first 3 winners were awarded cups, medals, t-shirts and laptops.

This year’s best winners of scratch competition were Kwizera Isaac from GS Gisozi in Gasabo District /Kigali City and Akariza Kessia from GS Saint Bernard in Gisagara District/ Southern Province.

Scratch is an educational tool with a visual programming language that makes it easy for students to create their own interactive stories such as, animations, games, project-based activities, music, and art. It helps young children to learn better, to apply their knowledge, to solve given problems, to reason systematically, to work collaboratively and to develop essential 21st century skills.
