The Minister of Education officiates the opening of the 7th African Students and Youth Summit 2018
On 25th July 2018, the Minister of Education Hon. Dr.Eugene Mutimura officiated the opening of the 7th African Students and Youth Summit, in Kigali Convention and Exhibition Village. The summit will take place from 25th to 27th July 2018 and brings together student’s leaders (both Universities and secondary schools), young leaders, and youth from non-governmental organizations and private sectors, academicians, researchers, political leaders across the continent, and policy makers from different corners of Africa.
In his remarks, the Minister of Education recognized the efforts of the All Africa Students Union (AASU), the Rwanda National Students’ Association-INTAGAMBURUZWA, the Pan African Movement-Rwanda Chapter, and all members of the Organizing Committee to make this important event happen.
He reminded the role of the youth in the future of the Continent and the entire world. “We all know that the future of the African continent lies in the hands of the its youth which currently constitutes more than 70% of the population of the content. The implementation of strategies such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063 will be driven by the well-educated young people.” He said
The Summit aims at laying a foundation for Main streaming the Pan-Africanism and patriotism to the African youth and their engagement in the implementation of SGDs 2030 and AU 2063. That means Laying a plan for the establishment of Pan-African clubs into different universities across the continent, incorporate Pan-Africanism and patriotism into the African educational curriculums, drawing a plan of promoting the African culture and values etc. Around 1,800 delegates will be hosted from all over the continent.
Some of the topics to be covered During this three day Summit; Pan-Africanism: Reflecting on the Vision of our Forebears and Strategies to Overcome Challenges of the Continent, and Build the Africa We Want, Empowering the African Youth to Take Part in the Implementation of the SDGs, AU Agenda 2063, and AU Reforms, The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation to Drive African Development, Ensuring Safety, Security and Education for All African Children: A Sustainable Development Goals’ Perspective, etc.
