Kigali, 7th October 2021 - The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mr. Charles Karakye chaired an Education Sector Working Group (ESWG) meeting for FY 2 that was held both physically and virtually for quarter one of the financial year 2021/2022.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary reiterated the importance of the forum noting that it is an opportunity for Officials from the Ministry of Education and its affiliated Agencies to meet with Education Development Partners and discuss priorities, achievements and challenges of the education sector and find solutions to identified problems affecting the development of education in Rwanda.  

The Permanent Secretary thanked participants’ turn up and recognised the presence of ESWG Co-Chairs and for their efforts towards successful organization of the meeting.

He also appreciated the role of every Education Development Partner in supporting the development of education. ‘’Together we can do more in Education’’. PS said.

‘’We have been together in difficult period which we are passing through as a country and the whole world. The Covid-19 pandemic paralyzed different sectors of national development including education. Today, we celebrate the completion of the school year amidst the pandemic challenges.’’ He added.

He further cherished all achievements in Rwanda education sector because of good collaboration with Education Development Partners. ‘’I call upon all of you to multiply efforts to make strong steps ahead to cross more milestones. We want to work together to improve the quality of teaching and learning outcomes at all levels of education’’ The PS Emphasized.

The Permanent Secretary Charles Karakye called up one everyone in education sector and every partner organization to make use of the existing structures of the Education Sector Working Group (ESWG), Sub-Sector Working Groups (SSWGs) and Technical Working Groups (TWGs).

He also encouraged all partner organizations especially NGOs to work closely with the Rwanda Education NGOs Coordination Platform (RENCP) to ensure harmonization of their interventions in education.

The PS noted that, the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Education will continue to provide access to education services for Rwandan citizens, and promote curricula that reflect the culture of peace, Rwandan values and to endorse the universal values of justice, peace building, tolerance, respect for human rights, gender equality, and teamwork.

The Education Sector Working Group discussions focused on the role of International NGOs to support the implementation of Government Plans and measures to improve alignment of INGOs intervention; Improving coordination of Development Partners’ interventions to implement education sector priorities in FY 2021/2022; Updates on major activities performed in FY 2020/2021 and priority activities planned in the FY 2021/2022 by Sub-Sector Working Groups; and updates of Technical Working Groups.

The ESWG Meeting concluded agreeing with clear recommendations that will guide partner to priorities for responding to the common goal of advancing Rwanda’s Education Sector.
